Namibia is a vast country with long distances between major landmarks. Plan at least 2–3 weeks for a full trip, or focus on one region if you’re short on time.
For us, the best time to visit Namibia is April to May—warm/cool, dry, (like European spring) and less crowded. This year (2025), the rainy season turned the desert green and lush. With water available everywhere, animals weren’t just at waterholes, making spotting them a bit trickier. However, they were more active, offering great opportunities to see them in action.
In Namibia, we covered over 4,500 km, recommended strictly with a 4x4 and some off-road driving experience. Knowing how to change a tyre is essential, and when heading into remote areas, always inform your accommodation or host—there’s little to no network for emergencies.
For photography in Namibia, bring a couple of camera bodies, lenses from 14 mm to 600 mm, a GoPro, and a sturdy tripod. Use wide lenses like 14–24 mm for Milky Way shots and 400–600 mm for wildlife. Drones are strictly regulated, so check the rules and get the necessary permits before you go.

Kick off in Windhoek, then head north to the Cheetah Conservation Fund (Otjiwarongo) for big-cat close-ups. Hike the Waterberg Plateau for epic views and track rhinos on foot—yes, really—it's thrilling and humbling. 🎬 Watch this episode and get inspired for your trip!
